Spring has already sprung, and now that Summer is here, so is wedding season! Of course there is no designated season for love (ahem, yes. It’s any time). But, for all you lovers out there planning for your weddings or taking part in a wedding, I’m sure you’ve got a lot on your minds - especially the perennially pressing question “WHAT TO WEAR?”
For those of you who are looking to pull off a Carrie Bradshaw style courthouse wedding, we’ve got some tips for you. Someone with personal experience in pulling off a courthouse wedding is Chictopia’s very own creator Corinne. We interviewed her for tips on how she prepared for her big day!
Lets start with the question that is on everyone’s mind, what did you wear?
Corinne: I was wearing a strapless dress from J.Crew wedding, along with J.Crew heels. I didn’t plan for my outfit to be all J.Crew, but in some ways it was only fitting since I’ve been a long time fan of the brand. I had somewhat of an idea of what I wanted: something simple, ivory, short. When I saw the dress from J.Crew, I knew that it fit what I was looking for pretty immediately. Although I think my shoes got more compliments than my dress.
Tony: I had on a Hugo Boss suit and Bruno Magli dress shoes. I’m glad everything fit well, and the look was classic. I also wanted the shoes to be something I could wear on more casual days.
It’s so great how Corinne had a personal connection with her dress and brand. How did you both decide on your final outfits? Did you have any specific looks or inspiration in mind when you started your search? Was there anything you HAD to have?
C: I wanted to be somewhat traditional in color, so either a white or an off white. I was somewhat set on having red flowers as a bouquet, so something that would contrast in color was my thinking. I also wanted to have shoes that were slightly less traditional wedding wear, and ones that I could wear on occasion some other time.
T: I wanted to get a new suit and Hugo Boss ended up having the right cut for my frame. I wanted to stay classic with the cut too. The shoes were just plain comfortable.
A lot of times, people get caught up in the hype of wedding planning, it’s so cool to see how you guys could stay relaxed and casual on your special day. I love how you both considered practicality and fit. So important! By the way, how did you guys meet?
C: We met in 1998, when I was working at my first job out of college and I happened to be coworkers with one of his good high school buddies. One day, my coworker invited me over to his house, and all of his friends hangout there, including Tony. That’s when we met. However, I did end up driving his ‘71 Corvette Stingray once before I even met him. We had been close friends ever since. And it was only recently that we saw past our friendship and became more than that. It just felt right once we both saw it.
Aside from your love for eachother, you both seem to have a passion for fashion. (Yes, I get punny) Where does your love for fashion come from and how did it influence your wedding day?
C: I guess being with Chictopia, I have since come to always think about “What to wear” on any special occasion, especially my wedding day.
T: I wouldn’t say I have a huge knowledge of fashion, but I wanted to look my best especially for my wedding day. Corinne’s interest in fashion has also motivated me to dress well.
What were your 3 biggest memories/standout moments from that big day?
C: Of course, the big “I do” is top of mind. I’m glad that it was intimate and shared by only a close few. It made me focus on what’s important, which is spending the rest of my life with my husband. Other than that, we had a lot of fun with our photographer taking photos around the beautiful City Hall. The architecture made a gorgeous backdrop for our classic looks also.
T: First off, it was one of those rare, perfect weather days in the City. And City Hall looked spectacular with the sun on it. The fact that we kept it intimate and simple let us enjoy the moment itself, rather than having to deal with irrelevant pomp and circumstance.
