5 Outfits for New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week is almost here. It’s gonna be grand. It’s gonna be busy. It’s gonna be bold. So what outfits would be perfect to wear? It’s my second time to travel all the way to New York for Fashion Week. So I thought I’d share some tips with you.
Must Have Pieces
Long Coat – New York Fashion Week Fall Shows are held during winter season – in one of the really coldest states in the US! Make sure to keep yourself warm by wearing a long coat or down coat. To avoid looking like marshmallow man, choose slimmer down coats or coats that will give you form and shape. A funnel coat, belted lined trench, cape coat or even some gorgeous faux or real fur coat is perfect. I would suggest to wear your most stunning coat because this is New York Fashion Week! If you have coats with faux or real fur details, take them out! Look as stylish as you can!
Boots – Snow in New York during winter season is inevitable. So instead of not being able to walk around in your stylish heels (or slipping for that matter), I suggest going for boots that are as stylish yet weather-appropriate. Snow boots are perfect but wellies like Hunter boots with welly socks is also a great option. And to keep the look more stylish, go with croc-print or snake-print Hunter boots too!
Hat/Hair Accessory – It’s important to keep your head and ears protected so a hat, beanie or a turban – the latest hot trend in hair accessories – is a must. I suggest wearing one if you’ll be spending a couple of minutes outside Lincoln center whether you’re taking photos or being photographed for your sense of fashion!
Gloves – If you plan to arrive in style, I suggest wearing gloves that make a statement. Street style photogs are swarming outside Lincoln Center. To keep you really warm, wear leather or cashmere gloves with fur (real or faux) or bow details. You can also opt for longer gloves or wear one in leopard print or a bold color such as red.
Shoulder Bag – To say that New York Fashion Week is a super busy and hectic fashion event is an understatement. So I suggest keeping your hands free by wearing a shoulder bag as opposed to a handbag. It’s also where you can inject a pop of color to a winter outfit. And may I add – choose something roomier than usual. If you’re attending shows, you’re most likely to find lookbooks and freebies in your seat. Carrying those with your bag can be a handful. And don’t forget you’re also holding your camera or camera phone taking photos of models going down the runway (or snapping celebs in the front row). Oh, and don’t forget, keep another hand free for cocktails and other drinks.
Thermals – Whether leggings or thermal tops, these pieces will definitely help you withstand the freezing temperatures of New York. It’s very important especially if you plan to wear short dresses to keep you warm underneath.
Layers – The key to keeping warm and stylish is to put on layers. Even if you plan to wear a plain sweater, make sure to layer up with a leather jacket, a button down shirt, or a real or faux fur vest, stole or scarf. It’s all in the details. If you’re wearing pants, go skinny to tuck in your stylish boots but don’t forget to wear thermals underneath. Leather pants are also perfect to keep you stylish and warm at the same time. You can also go for maxi skirts and maxi dresses if you’re feeling like it but remember to layer.
New York Fashion Week Looks
NYFW Look 1: Keep the look simple but with chic details. Black leather pants worn with a cashmere top and another monochromatic layer looks simple. But adding in a warm cashmere cardigan, welly boots with leopard socks, a quilted down coat with a fur scarf on top and red accessories such as a bag and cocktail ring makes this simple outfit so stylish.

NYFW Look 2: A black maxi skirt with a black cropped sweater can actually work for winter. Just wear it with thermal leggings underneath, thermal tank and snow boots. Add a statement bib necklace and omplete the look with a gorgeous leopard coat and some leather gloves. To add a hint of spring and pop of color, try a shoulder bag in green.
NYFW Look 3: All black is never boring when you pay attention to the details. How about wearing a long coat with a fabulous fur trim? Inside, wear simple black trousers, a white top with an eye-catching detail such as a flower or bow and top off with a black leather jacket. Boots with a snake-skin print, cashmere gloves with fur detail, black shoulder bag with grommet details, and an off-the-moment hair accessory such as the turban are the perfect black accessories to match your outfit.
NYFW Look 4: Want to look sweet and blushing yet be able to brave the cold? Try sweater dresses in shades of blush, beige, and cream. Pair off with the same colored tights and layer up with cream socks. Wear a cape coat, beret and some colored gloves to keep the look romantic. And don’t forget to layer with a cashmere cardigan beneath for added warmth.
NYFW Look 5: High fashion is what it’s all about. Don’t be afraid to go bold and wear a ton of designer or trendy outfits because this is the week to go all out. Wear your designer blouse, trousers, fur vest, high heels (which you can switch up when you get to the venue), a spacious designer bag (to carry extra shoes and what not), two-finger rings, and a military-inspired coat to finish the whole look.
Make sure you plan your outfits ahead. Those looks are merely suggestions on how to style pieces while keeping yourself warm during this cold fashion week. I highly suggest taking just one warm stylish coat and plan your outfits from there. Coats are bulky to pack and they will take up a lot of space when traveling. Limit your shoes (boots) to two or at the max, three. Like coats, boots are bulky and you don’t want to be carrying all those stuff while it snows outside.
Stay stylish and keep warm! Hope you enjoyed this post!
